Parboiling Solutions — Minimal Water Technology
Parboiling is the hydrothermal treatment of paddy before milling, involving the three steps of soaking, steaming, and drying. During this process, the starch inside the grain gelatinizes and forms a tightly packed structure, which dramatically reduces grain breakage during milling, increases head rice recovery, and improves the nutritional value of the final product. Parboiled rice is harder, less sticky after cooking, and holds a significantly higher demand in both domestic and export markets across South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa.
At Grain Master, we install a next-generation parboiling system using patented minimal water technology — a revolutionary advancement over conventional parboiling. Traditional parboiling requires approximately 1.2 tonnes of water to process every 1 tonne of paddy, generating large volumes of wastewater that must be treated before disposal, adding significant cost and environmental burden to mill operations. Our minimal water technology eliminates the soaking stage entirely, requiring only a very small quantity of water to achieve full starch gelatinization through precision steam application, reducing water consumption and wastewater generation to a fraction of conventional levels.
